Ok, so I went about a month with a really crappy cough, congestion, and just overall not feeling well. Stuff was constantly draining, I never had a fever, but I am sure that I was making every one around me as miserable as I was. I finally broke down and visited the doctor (ok, it was a nurse practitioner, but in general I trust them more than doctors).
So, I head up to the local Walgreens and go see the nurse practitioner there, she asks questions and checks me over and tells me she just wants me to try to fix my sinuses. She did prescribe me something for my cough, if it got too bad. But recommended I stick with a nasal decongestant/expectorant and if I could stand it, to give a neti pot a try.
I’m sure I looked dumbfounded, and she explained to me what it was and how it worked. Basically its a gravity flow irrigation of the sinus cavity, ie a solution goes in one nostrel, makes its way through your sinuses and comes out the other nostrel. I was tired of feeling crappy, so I though what the heck, I’ll give it a shot.
As I’m waiting around for my prescription I peruse the allergy and sinus area, and find a NasaFlo neti pot (this site actually has a video of it in progress). It looked a bit odd, but the price wasn’t bad, so I went ahead and got it.
I went home and gave it a whirl, I actually did read the directions, but hadn’t seen the video yet. My impression… Holy cow, almost all of the pressure that was built up in my head was gone. Ok, not like gone gone. It built up again during the day still, but for the most part, I didn’t feel like my head was going to explode any longer.
As time has gone by, I have continued to use my Neti Pot daily, its kinda become part of my morning routine. I can’t believe that nobody had ever suggested I try this before, because I’ve had sinus problems forever.
Anyhow, I don’t really have much else to say, I just wanted to put my stamp of approval on nasal irrigation in general. Maybe this could help someone else who suffers through sinus related problems.
